Free Double Bill of Performance

Two images collaged together. One is of Jack Dean & company, two performers stood on a cloudy beach, playing instruments with their eyes closed. One is of Ellen Renton, she has pale skin, pale hair and wears a dark blue sports top and headset mic

To close this years ‘A Bit Of A Do’ we are hosting a Double Bill of performance work at Stanley Arts on the 27th of November.

Both of the works have been commissioned and supported by Unlimited an arts commissioning programme, celebrating the work of disabled artists, that enables new work by disabled artists to reach UK and international audiences.

You can book a ticket for one show or both shows, watch the work in person at Stanley Arts or watch pre-recorded versions of the shows online.

Hero & Leander - 6pm

A modern musical from Jack Dean & Company that tells an epic seaside tale through songs encompassing folk, indie, sea shanties and choral music. Six multi-instrumentalists share a story of bad rulers, worse weather, and how we keep going when everything is flipping terrible.

The live performance includes British Sign Language interpretation.

The pre-recorded version includes captions.

Within Sight - 8pm

Within Sight is poet Ellen Renton’s debut solo show. Based on her experience of living with albinism, Renton’s soft-spoken but hard hitting poetry dismantles ableism, inspiration porn, and the myth of the Paralympics. This multimedia work uses film to give non-disabled audience members a sense of what it’s like to navigate the world with impaired vision.

The live performance includes British Sign Language interpretation, as well as captions.

The pre-recorded version includes captions. A pre-recorded version is also available with British Sign Language interpretation.
